DVD-ROM and CD-ROM Support

The information below is based on the Vintage Radio Service Data DVD-ROM but also applies to the Valve Data CD-ROM unless otherwise stated. Some aspects such as filenames may vary.

System Requirements

Any computer with a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive and Adobe Reader (Acrobat Reader) version 5 or later installed. For printing data a printer must be available and configured in the operating system. Basic information for common operating systems is given below.

Adobe Reader

You must have Adobe Reader (Acrobat Reader) version 5 or later installed. The Vintage Radio Service Data DVD-ROM will not operate correctly with third party PDF viewer applications.

Windows Vista

Insert the DVD-ROM and wait for the AutoPlay dialogue to appear. If you have Adobe Reader installed, click "Run index.pdf" and read this file for further information. If you do not have Adobe Reader installed, click "Open folder to view files", then double-click the "adobe" folder and read the "readme.txt" file.

Windows XP and Windows 2000

Insert the DVD-ROM. If you have Adobe Reader installed the "index.pdf" file should open automatically. Read this file for further information. If you do not have Adobe Reader installed Windows may ask what to open the file with. Cancel this, double-click "My Computer", double-click the DVD-ROM drive, then double-click the "adobe" folder and read the "readme.txt" file.

Mac OS-X (information based on OS-X 10.4)

Insert the DVD-ROM and wait for the icon to appear on the desktop. If you have Adobe Reader installed, start it and open "index.pdf" on the DVD-ROM. Read this file for further information. If you do not have Adobe Reader installed, double-click the DVD-ROM then double-click the "adobe" folder and read the "readme.txt" file.

Linux – Gnome Desktop (information based on Ubuntu 8.04)

Insert the DVD-ROM and wait for the icon to appear on the desktop and the file browser to open. If you have Adobe Reader installed, right-click "index.pdf" and choose "Open With Adobe Reader". Read this file for further information. If you do not have Adobe Reader installed, check the package installer for your distro and install it from there if available. If it is not available there, double-click the DVD-ROM then double-click the "adobe" folder and read the "readme.txt" file.

Linux – KDE Desktop (information based on Kubuntu 8.04)

Insert the DVD-ROM and wait for the Unmounted Media dialogue to appear. Click "Open in New Window". Follow the instructions for the Gnome Desktop above, from the second sentence onwards.

Improved Performance

For improved performance and convenience we recommend that the contents of the DVD-ROM (apart from the "adobe" folder) be copied to the hard disk of your computer or to a file server on your network. Refer to your operating system instructions if you need assistance with this.

Backup and Working Copies

You may make up to three backup or working copies of this DVD-ROM for your convenience and to protect your investment.

Only One DVD-ROM in a Double Case

The product is supplied as a single DVD-ROM. Unfortunately a supplier sent us a quantity of the wrong cases (double instead of single) and is no longer trading so we cannot return them. We are therefore using them to avoid waste. This affects DVD-ROMs supplied in the first few months of 2009. We apologise for any confusion.

Lifetime Warranty

If you have problems accessing the information on your DVD-ROM or CD-ROM, please first try it on a different computer to rule out any problems with your drive or system. Once you have confirmed that it is definitely faulty you may take advantage of our Lifetime Warranty.

If the DVD-ROM or CD-ROM is less than a year old, you have proof of purchase (or approximate date if ordered online), and the fault is not due to poor handling or storage, there is no charge for this. You just pay for the postage to send it back to me, and I pay for the return postage.

If the problem is caused by misuse or improper storage conditions, if you have had the DVD-ROM or CD-ROM for over a year or have lost the receipt/invoice, I charge a handling fee to cover the media and postage costs. Payment may be made by UK cheque or postal order payable to S&P Technology. Alternatively you may pay online by PayPal to sales@service-data.com then state the PayPal reference number in a letter with the DVD-ROM or CD-ROM. The handling fee is £5.00 plus postage at the current rate for a single disc, £8.00 plus postage for two discs, £10.00 plus postage for three discs and £12.00 plus postage for four discs.

Please send your defective discs to the address on the Contact Details page. You only need to send the discs themselves, not the cases etc. Because you will be sent a replacement, it doesn't matter if the discs you are returning get further damaged in the post. We do not normally test returned disks, we just destroy them and send replacements.
