Vintage Radio Service Data by Email costs just £1.99 per item. You will normally receive your data within 15 minutes*. Payment is by PayPal only.
All service data is supplied in Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) format, which can be viewed using the free viewer program available for download from the Adobe website.
Please read the whole of this page before ordering.
If you are using a Hotmail or AOL email address, please note that the email systems operated by these companies often 'lose' emails sent by my automatic system (maybe they filter it as spam - I don't know). If possible, please change the default email address on your PayPal account to an alternative email provider. If you must to use Hotmail or AOL and your data does not arrive, you may contact me for manual resending as detailed below (if possible give an alternative email address). However there is no guarantee that manually sent data to Hotmail or AOL will arrive either. I will not refund payments for Hotmail or AOL users if the data does not arrive despite resending. If you are dissatisfied please complain to Hotmail or AOL.
Ordering is simple! To find out if the data you require is available, and to place your order, go to the Service Data Index:
When you find the data you want, click the "Add to Basket" button to add it to a PayPal shopping basket. You can continue to add service data to your basket, and you can remove items if you change your mind etc. Once you are happy, simply go through the PayPal checkout as you would with any other PayPal transaction.
PayPal generally process payments immediately. As soon as I receive notification of payment completion from PayPal, my automated system should email your service data to you. This is usually within a few minutes (see 15 Minute Delivery below) but please allow a couple of hours in case of internet delays. If you have not received it after two hours, please contact me.
Note that if your email payment is funded from your bank account (rather than from PayPal funds or credit card) this is regarded as an "eCheque" payment by PayPal which takes typically 5 days to clear. Your data will not be sent until I receive notification of cleared funds from PayPal.
This service is available for PayPal payments and email delivery only. If you are not able to use PayPal, please consider purchasing the relevant CD-ROM instead.
The Service Data Index shows the file sizes. Some email services have a size limit of 2MB. For data larger than this, the size is highlighted in bold red as a reminder. Please make sure you can receive attachments of the size shown BEFORE ordering, and be sure to disable any attachment blocking filters, spam filters etc.
If the email fails I will send it a second time (perhaps to a different email address) upon request, but if that also fails you may have to place another order.
If you are unhappy with the data you have received please email me. Normally we should be able come to an acceptable resolution. For example, if you find that the data you have received refers to details in another service manual, I will send you the additional manual (if available) free of charge on request.
Refunds are normally only available if the data received is different from the description given and I do not have the correct data to send you. Refunds are not offered if delivery fails due to file size limitations, spam filtering or similar with your email provider or on your computer.
Refunds or free replacements are not offered if you choose the wrong model number, so please check that you have ordered the right data before paying.
For every model in this index the following information is given:
Type
This indicates the type of service sheet used. The possibilities are:
- Manufacturers - This is an original manufacturer's service sheet or manual. This varies from a large service manual at one extreme, to a preliminary data sheet containing little more than a circuit diagram and alignment information at the other end of the scale. Most are somewhere between the two extremes, and give adequate information for a reasonably experienced engineer to use.
- Trader - Most restorers regard Trader sheets as the best source of information. Trader sheets generally contain a clear circuit diagram, separate parts list, alignment instructions, typical voltages, tuning drive restringing, production modifications and variations etc.
- ERT - These sheets were published in a rival publication to the Trader. They are generally a little less comprehensive than Traders, and the layout is not so friendly. However they covered many sets that Trader did not, and the information is adequate for most purposes.
- Broadcaster - These sheets were published in the 1930s and are quite similar in content to the ERT sheets. They cover some sets from an earlier period than Trader or ERT sheets. I suspect that this publication became ERT, but I do not know for sure.
- RER/RR/BRT - These sheets were published in another rival publication - one which could not make up its mind what to call itself! The sheets were generally described as product reviews, yet they concentrated more on the circuit operation, adjust and alignment etc., than on the product performance. The information is a little more limited than ERT sheets.
- R&TVS - Newnes Radio and Television Servicing. These famous burgundy books were published from the early 1950s. The amount of data included varies, but it is generally fairly minimal. I have generally included R&TVS data when nothing better is available - on the basis that something is better than nothing!
- Circuit Only - For a few sets, all I have been able to obtain is a circuit diagram. All circuit diagrams include component values (either on the diagram or in a separate table), because I feel that circuit diagrams without component values are not worth including.
- Other - This is used for data from other sources, such as magazines or books, redrawn circuit diagrams, etc.
Ref
This code is used when ordering the data and is automatically entered into the PayPal shopping basket. The format of the code allows me to easily locate the data required on my system easily. The code is nothing clever - it simply indicates the CD-ROM, folder and filename for the file required.
In some cases you will notice that the folder (the centre part of the code) does not match the manufacturer; this is because many service sheets cover a range of products from different related manufacturers that all use the same basic chassis or circuit.
File Size
This is the size of the file, in KB. Before ordering you should check with your email provider that you are able to receive a file of this size by email. If the size is over 2MB it is highlighted in bold red as a reminder to you to check first.
Service data is sent by email by an automated system within 15 minutes of receiving the PayPal payment confirmation. In the event of a problem with the automated system your data will be sent manually, normally within 24 hours.
If you have not received your data two hours after receiving the payment confirmation email from PayPal, please contact me so I can investigate. Before contacting me however, please check the status page of this website for any status announcements that could account for the delay.
The 15 minute delivery cannot be not guaranteed, as it is dependant on the reliability and perfomance of the internet, email servers, file server, PayPal system etc. In particular it does not apply to AOL or Hotmail addresses which often lose data from my automatic system.
Note that if your email payment is funded from your bank account (rather than from PayPal funds or credit card) this is regarded as an "eCheque" payment by PayPal which takes typically 5 days to clear. Your data will not be sent until I receive notification of cleared funds from PayPal.
