Vintage Radio Service Data CD-ROMs

Vintage Radio Service Data Volume 1 contains over 1200 service sheets and circuit diagrams, covering more than 2100 different models. The majority of the data covers valve radios. In addition there are several early transistor radios, as well as a few tape recorders, radiograms and amplifiers etc.

Vintage Radio Service Data Volume 2 contains over 1200 service sheets covering over 1800 dfferent models, and covers a similar range of equipment to Volume 1. This CD-ROM contains more pre-war equipment than Volume 1, but there is still plenty of post-war and early transistor equipment too. There is also a greater quantity of original manufacturers service data.

Vintage Radio Service Data Volumes 3 contains a similar mix of data as the previous two CD-ROMs. Because there is a greater proportion of full service sheets (hence larger files), the total number of service sheets is just under 1100, covering about 1800 models.

Vintage Radio Service Data Volumes 4 again contains a similar mix of data as the other CD-ROMs. It has an even greater proportion of full manufacturers service sheets. Approximately half the data is new models not featured on previous CD-ROMs (the rest being better data than that on the earlier CDs). The total number of service sheets is 870, covering about 1300 models.

The CD-ROMs are designed to be used either independently or as a set. There is little duplication of data between the CD-ROMs, and where this has occurred it is because more comprehensive data has become available for inclusion on later volumes.

A fully cross-referenced index system is included on each CD-ROM, allowing quick and easy access to the data required. The structure of the CD-ROM is also suited to more casual browsing.

All data sheets are scanned at a high resolution (generally 300 or 400 DPI), and stored in Adobe Acrobat format. They may be printed as required for workshop use. With a standard inkjet printer, the print quality is equivalent to a good photocopy. Two sample service manuals are available to demonstrate the quality and style of the data included.

Sample 1 (633k)      Sample 2 (560k)

A copy of Acrobat Reader for Windows 98/NT4/ME/2000/XP is included. Also included is the latest version of the Vintage Radio Service Data CD-ROM Menu Program.

The CD-ROMs are designed and tested on Windows systems. Although they should work OK on other operating systems, successful operation on anything other than Windows 98 or later cannot be guaranteed. A reasonably modern CD-ROM drive (less than five years old) is needed to read CD-R disks reliably.

The price of the CD-ROMs is just £15 each or £50 for all four. Prices INCLUDE postage and packing to anywhere in the world. An on-line PayPal ordering is available.

CD-ROM Ordering Information

You may like to consider the cost of obtaining service data by conventional means - often £5 or more for a single service sheet. With one of these CD-ROMs you can have 800 - 1200 service sheets in a structured format for less than two pence each! Compared to paper copies you should be able to find the information required much quicker, and it takes a lot less storage space! Plus you can produce printed copies for use on the bench without having to worry about damaging precious originals.

The following extract is from a review of these CD-ROMs by Jonathan Warburton-Brown on his Vintage Wireless Collection website.

The information on the CD consists of scanned service sheets and trader sheets which are stored in PDF format. This is a universal format which allows the text and images to be viewed on a computer or printed out for a hardcopy reference. Additionally, when viewed on screen, using the supplied, freely available viewing software (Adobe Acrobat Reader) the viewer can zoom in on the scanned sheets for higher magnification.

Installing the software on the CD onto the computer is very easy and Paul has included instructions for doing so. The quality of the scanned images is very good and there is a good indexing system which allows the required sheet to be quickly located. Paul has put a great deal of effort into the CD and, given the amount of data provided, charges a very reasonable price for it.

In a review of these CD-ROMs (and my whole website) on his Vintage Radios website, Malcolm Bennet said:

I can state the quality of the data is very good and I use the CDs myself.

The following comments have been received by email:

I'm impressed by the wealth of information on it! The scans are a very good quality too. And the Acrobat reader allows legible views without printing. - Hans A., Netherlands.

I have already run off several circuits and I must say that he quality is very good. - Geoff J., England.

I have just received you Vintage Radio Service Data CD ROM. It is fantastic and I know it is going to fill many gaps in our radio collection and provide answers to many enquiries. - (major radio manufacturer archivist).
